Studies have shown that having a Doula attend births resulted in:
- 60% fewer requests for epidurals
- 40% reduction in C-Sections
- 40% reduction in induction drugs
- 30% reduction in narcotic use
- 30% reduction in forceps birth
- 41% increase in partner satisfaction
- 23% increase in likelihood of breastfeeding
According to DONA (Doulas of North America) statistics, doulas are dramatically increasing in popularity. In 1994, DONA was comprised of 750 members, and in 2004, membership increased to 5,221 members.
