About Me

My Training
I am a D.O.N.A. certified birth Doula. I received my training at a D.O.N.A. approved intensive weekend course. I have also had childbirth classes, childcare classes, and breastfeeding classes as a not expectant participant. I enjoy furthering my education by reading, shadowing, lectures, classes and I learn more with each experience.
My Beliefs
I strongly believe in a woman's natural ability to give birth and to have her birth as she sees fit.
I believe in every woman's right to make her birth experience uniquely her own with or without interventions. I do believe that with proper education most women will opt out of medical interventions. I have had clients ranging from women who wish to go totally "natural" with no medication and clients who are delighted with the idea of an epidural.
My Choice To Become A Doula
I became a Doula because of former experiences during my training in Labor and Delivery as a Surgical Technician. There were days, though rare, that we did not have any Cesarean Sections scheduled. I would utilize those days to attend to a mother who needed support or reassurance during her labor. At this time, I was unfamiliar with the term Doula, but I now realize that was the role I was fulfilling.
